According to CENTCOM, a U.S. military aircraft fired precision munitions into the vessel's engine room after the crew repeatedly failed to comply with directions from American forces. The IMO said the Palau-flagged tanker MT Settebello caught fire after reportedly being struck by a projectile off the coast of Oman.

According to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the attack left three seafarers missing. Mr Trump also said the US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is "the most successful blockade in the history of naval warfare" and that "lots of oil is getting out".

Centcom on Wednesday said it had hit the Palau-flagged MT Settebello for “failing to comply with directions”. A US warplane fired “precision munitions” into the ship's engine room, it said.
