“In Iain Reid's novel "I'm Thinking of Ending Things," the final section set at Jake's old high school is shorter, more claustrophobic, and more direct than the corresponding final section in Charlie Kaufman's film adaptation "I'm Thinking of Ending Things."”

Available criticism and plot analysis support the comparison. The novel’s high-school ending is generally described as a brief, enclosed, explicit climax, while the film extends that material into a longer, more surreal and indirect finale with added stylized sequences. The remaining caveat is that terms like “claustrophobic” are interpretive, not strictly measurable.

“Charlie Kaufman's film "I'm Thinking of Ending Things" was released in 2020.”

The evidence clearly supports the 2020 release year. Authoritative sources, including Netflix and major film databases, list the film as released in 2020. While some sources distinguish between its limited theatrical debut and its later Netflix release, both occurred in 2020, so the claim is accurate as stated.

“In Charlie Kaufman's film adaptation "I'm Thinking of Ending Things," the high school sequence near the end is extended into a long surreal ballet sequence.”

The film’s late high-school sequence is widely described as expanding into a substantial surreal dream ballet. Multiple reliable discussions of the ending explicitly identify an Oklahoma!-influenced ballet with dancer doubles and stylized choreography. Any debate over editing or music treatment does not change the basic fact that the finale includes an extended ballet passage.
