“Excessive dietary salt intake lowers estrogen levels in women.”

The evidence does not support the claim that excessive dietary salt intake lowers estrogen levels in women. The only direct human study cited found that changing sodium intake did not alter estrone or estradiol in postmenopausal women. Studies in this evidence set mainly show the opposite relationship: estrogen influences salt sensitivity and fluid balance, while animal findings suggesting hormonal changes with high salt do not establish the same effect in women.

“Consuming even small amounts of dietary salt is harmful to human health.”

This claim is false. The human body requires approximately 200–500 mg of sodium daily for vital functions including nerve conduction, muscle contraction, and fluid balance. The WHO, CDC, and peer-reviewed research consistently link health harms to excessive sodium intake — not to small or moderate amounts. The PURE study and European Society of Cardiology data show a J-shaped curve where very low sodium intake actually increases cardiovascular and all-cause mortality. Small amounts of dietary salt are not harmful; they are biologically necessary.

“Drinking pink salt (Himalayan salt) beverages causes rapid weight loss in humans.”

This claim is false. No credible scientific evidence supports the idea that drinking Himalayan pink salt beverages causes rapid weight loss. A registered dietitian cited by Missouri State University explicitly states pink salt does not speed metabolism or cause weight loss. The only sources supporting the claim are low-credibility wellness blogs without peer-reviewed backing. In fact, increased sodium intake is more likely to cause water retention and bloating — the opposite of weight loss. Any transient fluid shifts from sodium changes are bidirectional and do not constitute meaningful weight loss.
