Mostly True 8/10
“Wealth inequality and corruption reduce the effectiveness of trophy hunting as a wildlife conservation tool in South Africa.”
The evidence supports a real weakening effect from corruption and unequal benefit distribution. In South Africa, these conditions can divert community revenue, impair wildlife management and accountability, and erode local conservation incentives. However, the scale of the nationwide effect has not been directly quantified, and trophy hunting can still provide conservation or rural benefits in some settings.

False 2/10
“Trophy hunting in African countries does not contribute to wildlife conservation.”
Documented African programs show that well-regulated trophy hunting can contribute to conservation through funding, habitat retention, and incentives for communities or landowners to maintain wildlife. These benefits are neither automatic nor universal: weak governance, excessive hunting, and poor revenue distribution can erase them or cause harm. However, those failures do not support the categorical assertion that trophy hunting makes no conservation contribution.
