“GPT-4 had a context window of 128,000 tokens at its release in March 2023.”

The March 2023 release did not provide a 128,000-token context window. OpenAI documented an 8,192-token window for GPT-4 and limited access to a 32,768-token variant; the 128K window was announced for GPT-4 Turbo in November 2023. The claim conflates the original model with that later release.

“OpenAI's ChatGPT reached one million users within five hours of its launch.”

ChatGPT reached one million users in about five days, not five hours. Contemporaneous statements and subsequent reliable reporting consistently give the five-day timeframe, while none of the cited evidence supports five hours. The incorrect time unit creates a 24-fold error in the claim’s central quantitative assertion.

“OpenAI was founded in 2015 as a nonprofit research laboratory.”

Corporate records and contemporaneous reporting establish that OpenAI was founded in December 2015 as a nonprofit artificial-intelligence research organization. Reports that some operations began in early 2016 do not change its 2015 incorporation and public launch, while later restructuring does not alter its founding status.

“OpenAI released GPT-4 in March 2023.”

Reliable primary documentation and independent news reporting confirm that OpenAI released GPT-4 in March 2023. Most sources identify March 14 as the announcement and initial rollout date; reporting dated March 15 reflects publication timing or the continuing rollout, not a substantive contradiction.

“ChatGPT's growth to 100 million monthly users within two months was the fastest adoption of any consumer application in history.”

ChatGPT did reach an estimated 100 million monthly active users roughly two months after launch and was considered the fastest-growing consumer application at that time. The enduring historical superlative is outdated because Threads later reached 100 million registered users in five days. Those measurements are not perfectly equivalent, but the claim supplies no qualification preserving ChatGPT’s former record.

“ChatGPT Plus has cost US$20 per month since February 2023 and has not had a price increase.”

Available evidence indicates the U.S. ChatGPT Plus list price has remained $20 per month from its February 2023 launch through mid-2026. OpenAI’s own launch and pricing pages support that figure, and multiple independent reports describe it as unchanged. The only contrary material refers to regional charges or speculation, not an official U.S. price increase.

“OpenAI reduced the price of standard ChatGPT seats on the ChatGPT Business plan by USD $5 per user per month in April 2026.”

OpenAI’s own April 2, 2026 Help Center documentation directly states that standard ChatGPT Business seats were reduced by USD $5 per user per month. The official pricing page is consistent with that change. Minor caveats about regional pricing and the Team-to-Business rebrand do not alter the basic accuracy of the claim.

“ChatGPT is free to use for everyone.”

ChatGPT does offer a free plan, but it is not available to everyone. OpenAI limits access to supported countries and may block accounts outside those regions, so the claim's universal wording is materially wrong. Free users also face usage and feature limits, though those are less important than the geographic restriction.

“On May 6, 2026, Mira Murati testified under oath that Sam Altman falsely claimed OpenAI's legal department had approved skipping internal safety procedures for a new OpenAI artificial-intelligence model.”

Reporting from Reuters and other reputable outlets shows that on May 6, 2026, Murati testified under oath that Altman was not telling the truth when he said OpenAI’s legal department had approved bypassing a safety review. The claim accurately describes her sworn testimony. The main caveat is that this establishes what she said in court, not a final judicial finding on Altman’s conduct.

“Five major tech companies, including Anthropic, OpenAI, and Microsoft, have launched AI chatbots specifically for consumer health support in 2026.”

The specific claim that five major tech companies launched consumer health chatbots in 2026 is not supported by the evidence. Multiple credible sources confirm dedicated health AI products from only three companies: Anthropic (Claude for Healthcare), OpenAI (ChatGPT Health), and Microsoft (Copilot Health). A possible fourth (Amazon) is weakly documented by a single source describing a different type of tool, and no fifth company launch is substantiated. The numerical assertion — the claim's defining element — is unverified.

“OpenAI shut down its Sora text-to-video AI platform in March 2026.”

Multiple major news outlets — CBS News, San Francisco Chronicle, NPR, TechCrunch, and others — confirm that OpenAI announced the discontinuation of its Sora consumer app and API in March 2026, quoting official OpenAI statements. The claim is substantially accurate. However, it slightly overstates scope: the shutdown targeted the standalone Sora app and API specifically, while the underlying video-generation model may remain accessible through other OpenAI products like ChatGPT Plus. The shutdown was also announced as a phaseout rather than an instantaneous cutoff.
