“Spain created 1.6 million new jobs over the past three years.”

Official Spanish labor-force data support the general magnitude of this claim. Using INE-based annual employment gains for 2023, 2024, and 2025, Spain added roughly 1.82 million employed people, so 1.6 million is a defensible rounded figure. The main caveat is that the statement does not define the exact three-year window or the employment measure used.

“Francisco Franco's government expanded and improved Spain's road infrastructure.”

The historical record supports the claim in broad terms. Spain’s road infrastructure did expand and improve under Franco, above all during the post-1959 developmental period tied to industrialization and tourism. The main caveat is that the largest buildout of the modern motorway network came after Franco, so the claim should not be read as crediting his regime with most of today’s system.

“Francisco Franco's government expanded healthcare provision in Spain.”

The evidence shows a real expansion of state-organized healthcare under Franco, especially through compulsory sickness insurance in 1942 and the 1963 Social Security reforms. But the expansion was partial: coverage remained incomplete, occupationally based, and uneven across regions, especially in rural Spain. The claim is broadly accurate, but it should not be read as meaning universal or adequately funded healthcare was achieved.

“The Treaty of Tordesillas was signed in 1494 to divide newly discovered lands between Spain and Portugal.”

The claim matches the historical record. The Treaty of Tordesillas was signed in 1494 and established a line intended to allocate overseas lands between the Spanish and Portuguese crowns. The main caveat is technical: “Spain” is a modern shorthand for the crowns of Castile and Aragon, and the treaty also covered future discoveries, not only lands already known.

“Contemporary observers recognized that expelling Jews from Spain would cause economic damage.”

The historical evidence shows that some contemporaries did anticipate economic harm from expelling Jews from Spain. Scholarly sources describe municipal elites and other observers warning about the loss of taxpayers, financial expertise, and skilled residents. But the record supports a limited claim about identifiable observers, not a broad contemporaneous consensus, and the famous Bayezid II quote is not solid contemporaneous evidence.

“In late-15th-century Spain, Jews comprised a disproportionate share of essential professionals, including physicians, administrators, tax collectors, translators, and traders.”

The evidence shows notable Jewish overrepresentation in some influential roles in late-medieval Spain, especially tax collection, fiscal administration, and some medical positions. But the claim overextends that pattern across all the listed professions and the specific late-15th-century timeframe. Evidence for translators and traders is weaker, and many Jews were still modest artisans or small merchants rather than elite professionals.

“Donald Trump made threats to invade Spain.”

Trump threatened to cut off all trade with Spain after it refused to allow U.S. use of joint military bases for operations against Iran. He also boasted the U.S. "could just fly in and use" those bases. However, no credible source — including those critical of Trump — characterized his remarks as a threat to invade Spain. The claim replaces documented economic threats with the far more extreme word "invade," which is not supported by the evidence.
